Learning from regret.

We all have regrets – for me it’s usually the things I didn’t do – but learning from those regrets can give them enormous value

In my coaching, the topic of regret will often emerge. And whilst it’s (almost) impossible to live a life without regret, reflecting on what you wish you’d done differently can be an incredibly rich source of inspiration in coaching conversations. What did you learn? What will you do differently as a result? What’s next?

What’s the most common regret that I hear as a coach? Missed opportunities. I wish I’d been bolder or braver or truer to myself. I should have taken the risk, grabbed the chance, gone with my heart. ‘What does that mean for you now?’ is a question that’s always interesting to work with!

Dan Pink’s TED talk -The power of regret (link below) is a great reminder of how very human regret is and how learning from those regrets can help us move forward.

What regrets have been a valuable lesson for you? What did you learn?
